Aerial Assessment Funding Requested 

The RDEK has submitted a request to Emergency Management BC (EMBC) for an aerial assessment of at least 20 sites along the Elk River and its tributaries to assist with determining future actions required for flood protection. EMBC has approved the request and the flight is expected to take place within the next two weeks. Contact: Lee-Ann Crane 250-489-2791

Concerns Raised Regarding Activities on Crown Land

A letter will be sent to Kootenay Columbia MP David Wilks and Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett regarding the Board’s concerns regarding  uncontrolled parties being held on Crown land in the region. An example is recent raves and parties held in the Koocanusa area, resulting in
objectionable noise issues, littering, vandalism and injuries. The letter requests action be taken to address the situation in the region, with copies going to Columbia River Revelstoke MLA Norm MacDonald, the RCMP and Interior Health. Contact: Lee-Ann Crane 250-489-2791

Coal Discovery Trail
The Board has moved to decommission the Coal Discovery Trail as of January 31, 2014 and transfer the tenure for the Fernie to Hosmer portion of the Trail to the Fernie Trails Alliance. It is hoped that between now and January, another group may come forward to take over the Hosmer to  Sparwood portion of the Trail. Contact: Kevin Paterson 250-489-2791
