The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK), under the direction of a steering committee comprised of local producers, is developing a strategic agricultural plan with the goal of supporting and promoting a viable, sustainable and diversified agriculture industry in our region. The plan will identify key issues and opportunities, make recommendations for future actions and include a practical strategy for implementation. This is a unique opportunity forEast Kootenayresidents to contribute to an RDEK policy document that will guide future decision making related to local agriculture and food production.
Public consultation and input are key components of the process being used to develop the East Kootenay Agricultural Plan. In addition to hosting a number of open house meetings, the agricultural plan steering committee has developed three separate surveys (consumer, producer, retail/supplier) as a means of gathering input from local residents and businesses. On-line and printable versions of the surveys are available on the East Kootenay Ag Plan website, www.ekag.ca.
