The Trans-Canada Highway (#1) is closed from Lake Louise to Field due to high and dangerous avalanche conditions. The highway is also closed from Golden to Field, with only local traffic being let through to Field. All other east-west traffic is being redirected through Radium Hot Springs. The estimated time of reopening is Tuesday, January 14 at 6 PM with low confidence. Updates to follow.
Our highway and visitor safety crews are working hard to reopen the highway in a timely and safe fashion, though crews are unable to conduct helicopter-assisted avalanche control at this time due to poor flying conditions caused by bad visibility and strong winds. Our team will attempt avalanche control as soon as conditions improve.
