FAIRMONT HOT SPRINGS RESORT

OPERATIONS UPDATE

11:00am Tuesday, July 24

It’s Day 10 of the clean-up effort and our team of employees and contractors has literally moved mountains to push Fairmont Hot Springs Resort closer to re-opening. Bodies may be tired but spirits are high and work continues from dawn to dusk.

On Sunday we uncovered all six hot springs and remarkably some of the boxes used to contain the flow were still intact. Beautiful hot water is gushing from the ground as strong as ever – now we’re working to restore the supply connection with the pool complex.

Many have asked why the lodge and RV Park are closed when they were not damaged by the debris flow itself. Water supply is the reason. Without reliable water for fire suppression, showers, toilets, etc. we can’t host guests. Trenching to establish a new potable water supply line from the town reservoir to the lodge and RV Park is progressing well.

We had hoped to have completed enough of the above work to allow an opening this week, but unfortunately need to delay further. Timelines are still subject to change but our confidence is increasing by the hour and we expect to be open in time for the August long-weekend.

Riverside Golf Course (including golf shop) – OPEN and operating as normal.

Dapper’s Landing Restaurant – OPEN and operating as normal.

Creekside Par 3 Golf Course – OPEN and operating as normal.

Spruce Grove Campground – OPEN and operating as normal.

B.C. Rockies Base Camp – OPEN and operating as normal.

Poolside Store – OPEN and operating between 9:00am and 7:00pm.

Brewer’s Market – OPEN and operating between 8:00am and 6:00pm.

Mountainside Golf Course (including golf shop / clubhouse) – CLOSED through Thursday, August 2, 2012.

Resort Lodge (including Mountain Flowers Restaurant, Bear’s Paw Bar and Grill, Steamers Café, Nature Connection and Natural Springs Spa) – CLOSED through Thursday, August 2, 2012.

The Hot Springs Pools – CLOSED through Thursday, August 2, 2012.

The RV Park – CLOSED through Thursday, August 2, 2012.

Ski Area Access – CLOSED until further notice.

Hiking Trails (around the canyon and accessed via the RV Park) – CLOSED until further notice.

Our full complement of employees have secure employment going forward and are working hard to ready the resort for re-opening. Those not involved directly in the clean-up are painting, weeding, cleaning and shining to ensure the resort is better than ever.

One final note… Thousands of Fairmont Hot Springs Resort guests had to change holiday plans as a result of the debris flow on July 15. We greatly appreciate the concern, patience and understanding our guests have shown. The letters we’ve received have helped drive our team forward through this challenging period.

The next update will be distributed before 6:00pm on Tuesday, July 31, 2012.

FAIRMONT HOT SPRINGS RESORT

OPERATIONS UPDATE – 8:00pm July 21, 2012

Since the last update dozens of contractors and employees have been working from dawn to dusk to re-establish water connections to the Fairmont Hot Springs Lodge and the RV Park.

We’re delighted to announce that the hot springs have been uncovered and are gushing beautiful hot water! Infrastructure at the source was extensively damaged in the debris flow but some is still in place and this makes reconnection with the pools a little easier going forward.

In addition to efforts to restore the flow of hot water from the springs to the pools, we are also building a new water supply line from the reservoir to the lodge (the old supply lines were obliterated in the debris flow). Extensive excavation is required to lay the necessary pipe over the 1.5km span – no easy task in mountainous terrain.

We had hoped to have completed enough of the above work to allow an opening by this coming Monday, but unfortunately the more we dig the more we know that we’ve still got a lot of work to do.
